Originated from the Latin word, “columba” or dove. It eventually referred to the depository of urns containing ashes of cremated bodies. Also referred to as vaults.

Cremation
The process of reducing human remains to bone fragments of fine sand or ashes through combustion and dehydration.

Hearse
A vehicle for conveying a coffin to a church or cemetery.

Interment
The act or ritual of interring or burying

Mortuary
A place, especially a funeral home where dead bodies are kept.

Urn
A vase of varying size and shape, which is normally made of wood, ceramic, metal or marble, containing ashes of the dead, which are actually ground bones.
